Every Brilliant Thing

September 19, 2019

Every Brilliant Thing is a story about a seven-year old child who was taken to the hospital to see their mother after her first attempt to take her own life. This event prompts the Storyteller to make a list.
A play by Duncan McMillan with Johnny Donahoe. Presented by license with Dramatists Play Service.
It is a list of everything worth living for. The story explores:
  • depression and hope
  • uncertainty and change
  • confusion and joy
  • heartbreak and anger
  • relationships and solitude
  • risk and resistance
  • guilt and forgiveness
Throughout the play, the Storyteller tells about their life with their mother’s depression as a backdrop, and the effects it has on their life and relationships.
