SM5 - Linda Raye's Piece - "I Am A Warrior"
See Me Virtual - Beverly’s Story Beverly describes getting out of a relationship that included domestic violence. She notes that leaving is survival: there is always a way out, even if it comes with challenges and costs. Advocates for choosing Self-worth over stigma: Divorce shouldn't be seen as failure—in her case, it was an act of self-preservation and empowerment. She concludes that Healing is possible: Noting that It is possible to move from survival to thriving, overcoming fear and shame. Finally, Self-love is essential: The critical question is not, “Do they love me?” but rather, “Do I love myself?” Issue Box Theatre’s See Me Virtual Program Issue Box Theatre collaborates with people to share their powerful personal stories through the See Me Virtual program. This initiative is designed to amplify the voices and experiences of marginalized people, offering a platform where their stories can be seen, heard, and valued. By centering lived experiences, See Me Virtual creates space for connection, empathy, and deeper understanding across communities. See Me Virtual – Yolonda’s Story Yolonda spent years battling depression and anxiety before being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. While her family hasn’t always understood, she has found healing through therapy at Harbor and community at the Tom Wernert Center. With treatment, friendship, and support, she is learning to feel loved and hopeful again. Issue Box Theatre’s See Me Virtual Program Issue Box Theatre collaborates with people to share their powerful personal stories through the See Me Virtual program. See Me Virtual - Gwen’s Story Gwen grew up struggling with literacy and lack of support in school, which left her feeling lost and ashamed. As a teenager, she experienced the trauma of losing a child and being told she could never have children, deepening her pain. She entered an abusive marriage, and after returning to Toledo, turned to drugs, theft, and dangerous relationships to survive. Despite years of addiction, relapse, and hardship, Gwen found strength in recovery, therapy, and self-reflection. Now at 65, she has embraced sobriety, creativity, and independence. She focuses on caring for herself and others, living with gratitude, and finding peace in who she is today Issue Box Theatre’s See Me Virtual Program Issue Box Theatre collaborates with people to share their powerful personal stories through the See Me Virtual program.
